Four for Three

$10.00

Music : Eddie Russ, Lyrics: Janice Jarrett

One of the 3 jazz waltz collaborations I have with Eddie Russ, this song gets its title from only four chords over a 3/4 meter. It’s fun song to use for sitting in. The lyrics emerged as a description of the life of a musician who hears tunes in her head all day long. Somewhat autobiographical when it reads, “As you sit among your friends and you hear voices they don’t, there’s a reason for you’re hearing more. It’s the Muse that sings, and to you she brings four for three.” (Piano by the masterful Sly Slipetsky)

Description

Eddie RussEddie Russ was a fantastic keyboardist and composer who was gigging even as a teenager in Pittsburgh clubs. He spent time in New York and California, but for some years played across Michigan. Although he worked with a great number of famous musicians, his solo career gave him a chance to record some memorable albums of his own. He received many awards and was a sought-after player and teacher. Russ gained tremendous popularity during his tours of Europe, where his “groove-laden” recordings were big hits. In 1995 a special tribute concert featured his treasured originals and demonstrated the affection held for him as a person. He passed in 1996 due to illness. He is missed.
